To continue providing our patients and our community the best care for generations to come, we must revitalize Lenox Hill Hospital with future New Yorkers and their health care in mind.

This proposal — deeply informed by our expert staff of doctors and nurses and medical industry standards — will ensure Lenox Hill Hospital remains at the forefront of clinical care, both regionally and nationally, for years to come. Our vision is to improve health outcomes for Lenox Hill Hospital’s 144,000 annual patients through investments including:

• State-of-the-art operating rooms to allow the hospital to adapt space to emergent technology and new industry practices. Since the 1970s, the standard size of surgical suites has effectively tripled to support modern equipment needs and to ensure sterile movement of supplies. This isn’t a problem that can be fixed by moving walls – ceiling heights are impossible to change without a revitalization.
• A right-sized Emergency Department to create more space to isolate infectious or immuno-compromised patients and offer all patients more comfort and privacy. The existing hospital has an ED that, at approximately 14,000 square feet, is undersized relative to the growing need for emergency services in the community. Our right-sized ED will deliver superior outcomes for the approximately 50,000 annual ED visits to the hospital.
• Single-bed patient rooms consistent with industry standards to offer all patients added privacy, reducing infection risk and providing a more dignified experience for the patient and their families and loved ones at no additional cost to patients.
• A dedicated Mother-Baby Hospital to better serve the more than 4,000 deliveries performed at the hospital annually. The proposed project would provide all mothers with single-bedded rooms with the goal of improving the experience of the families while continuing the clinical excellence of the hospital’s maternal child services.

• Supporting the over 5,000 employees who work at Lenox Hill Hospital with upgraded technology and an upgraded workplace.
• Improving neighborhood street traffic by bringing all loading activities and ambulance services within the building and investing in the 77th Street Subway station to support neighbors and local businesses.
